Built as a warehouse in the 1980’s, 1315 O’Brien is undergoing a major renovation to serve as the R&D headquarters for PacBio. Inspired by its industrial setting, the facade is being revamped with metal panels, painted concrete, and blue-tinted glazing. An articulated, two-story entry showcases this new aesthetic with a deep metal canopy, expressed structural elements, and a glass storefront system. Creating a campus atmosphere, a 20,000-sf entry plaza and adjacent patio area will increase the amount of outdoor activity and create a cross-flow of people between the spaces. Inside, the building is set to become a healthier, more productive workplace thanks to new punched windows, clerestories, and skylights. With open floor plates, an enhanced facade, and new amenities, this modern facility will promote scientific innovation through a seamless and enriching environment.
