DES provided interior design services and a structural engineering evaluation for the 8,000-sf, three-story mixed-use project. The ground floor houses retail banking and has the second floor offices for Cupertino National Bank, now occupied by Avid Bank. DES evaluated the third floor for a residential unit, which was later converted to executive offices and a conference room for the bank. Through this design process, the building was subdivided for multi-tenant use for both retail and offices. Shell improvements included retrofits, stairs, lobby, and HVAC upgrades. Paired with a new adjacent project, 400 Emerson became part of a prominent two building urban campus with a historic aesthetic that responds to Palo Alto’s downtown context.
