Biopharmaceutical Company Cafeteria

Foster City, California

With a clear inspiration from nature, this cafeteria space was renovated and expanded to create a calm, free-flowing space framed by curved lines and natural materials. It starts with the surfaces ā€” wood, bamboo laminates, and recycled glass counters ā€” which are complemented by S-shaped ceiling soffits and counters to create a cohesive, communal space. The cafeteria can now serve 250 people, up from just 100, with improved circulation. To take advantage of the morning sun, oversized skylights and column to column folding glass walls were used to fill the interior space with daylight. Adding drama, a bright backlight floral picture wraps the seating area and completes the organic theme of the space.
