Design Tech High School

Redwood City, CA

Design Tech High School’s (d.tech) new facility at Oracle’s Headquarters is the charter school’s first permanent home and the first high school located on a tech company’s campus. The sinuous, two-story building snakes through a narrow site that’s wedged between a tidal channel and the Oracle Conference Center. Facing the tech campus, the front entry and center of the school features an articulated, all glass facade and a swooping canopy that subtly suggests their forward-thinking approach. This highly-transparent portion provides views into the two-story maker space, called the Design Realization Garage (DRG). On the east and west wings of the building, modular learning neighborhoods feature four interconnected classrooms. Responding to d.tech’s design thinking approach, the interior plan provides controllability and choice through operable walls, movable furniture, and a plethora of break-out spaces.
