To optimize their complex operations as a fully integrated biotech company, PDL relocated into two buildings of a corporate campus. DES focused on the programming efforts of the interrelated personnel, material, and process flow. One building was a plug-n-play space that needed to be repositioned to accommodate a 10,000-sf vivarium and new laboratories. The other building needed to be transformed into a fully-integrated research facility with office/administration spaces, research labs, a clean pilot plant, and upgraded infrastructure that included new service yards with process piping and equipment. DES incorporated interior glass walls into both the offices and laboratories, spilling light into the building’s core.
