Roche Molecular Diagnostics

Pleasanton, California

DES has a long history working with Roche’s 33-acre west coast headquarters. For this project, a new sustainable research building, DES developed a strong link with other campus buildings and created an environment for cross-pollination and communication among scientists. The research center holds a full-service cafeteria and 85,000 sf of research laboratories, programmed adjacent to shared administration and break areas equipped with white boards to facilitate continued discussions outside the labs. All renewable and certified materials were selectively chosen for low emission, and water-efficient landscaping was used in the gardens, creating a LEED-certified building with close proximity to public transportation.
