As part of its 2018 Design Awards, AIA San Mateo County announced Fanny Wu as the recipient of the Emerging Professional Award. The Design Awards is AIA San Mateo County’s (AIA SMC) feature event that occurs biennially and celebrates outstanding projects and professionals.

The Emerging Professional Award recognizes a new professional who has expanded the role of the architect through civic participation and professional mentorship. Through her leadership at DES Architects + Engineers and active participation in local AIA chapters, Fanny has taken on the responsibilities of an architect in the broadest sense. Whether designing a new building or hosting an educational event, Fanny radiates a contagious enthusiasm and drive that leaves an indelible impression on her mentors, colleagues, and friends.

Brent Takahashi, Associate Principal at DES Architects + Engineers, said: “Fanny has a gentle and calm facade but inside has a bursting intensity of architectural passion. She has quickly earned the respect of her peers and clients. She is early in her career and is already contributing so much to [DES] and architectural community.”

Her accomplishments include serving on the Emerging Professionals Committee of AIA Silicon Valley for over 8 years and launching a series of new programs aimed at community building and professional development. She’s taken on a similar role at DES with her leadership of Revit Parties and DES Tea Talks. Most recently, she served as the Project Architect on The Club at Moffett Towers II, a 52,000-square-foot amenities center that is targeting LEED Platinum and 

With her incredible initiative and inclusive approach, Fanny will no doubt find continued success in the architectural profession and in communities across Silicon Valley.
