SUNNYVALE, California—September 31, 2014—At this year’s Structures Awards, the Silicon Valley Business Journal aannounced that Moffett Place won the Best Speculative Project Award. The Journal unveiled the awards to a lively crowd of real estate professionals and community leaders at the Fairmont San Jose Hotel.
Designed by DES Architects + Engineers (DES), the Jay Paul Company’s Moffett Place is a fully-amenitized, 55-acre corporate campus with six, eight story buildings. It is one of the largest speculative corporate campuses currently under construction in Silicon Valley.
“The plan was always to come out of the ground as a spec project,” said Janette D’Elia, Jay Paul Company’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, to the Journal. “As we tested the waters a bit more, we soon discovered the market was pretty interested.”
Prominently located on Highway 237, this new campus follows on the heels of the game-changing Moffett Towers development. Nearly 40 percent of the site is dedicated to open space with the office buildings assembled around a series of landscaped promenades and a centrally-located amenities building.
The project is set to transform the Moffett Park area into a transit-oriented neighborhood with tall, contemporary buildings and expansive open spaces. As a first for a spec project in Silicon Valley, a two acre park — the High Garden — will top the eastern parking structure and connect to the adjacent amenities building
The design of the buildings is characterized by the floor-to-ceiling structural glass, which provides a clean modern aesthetic while maximizing daylighting for tenants. “Overall, we wanted [the buildings] to have a very light, airy, glassy and transparent quality to it,” said C. Thomas Gilman, President and Principal at DES.
Three office buildings and the amenities building, totaling over 900,000 sf, are set to be completed within the coming months. And now, the Jay Paul Company is planning to build the entire project consecutively, as opposed to only the first phase as previously announced.
Even though Moffett Place is far from completion, the project is already earning industry awards and setting tomorrow’s design trends for corporate campus.
