Steve steers the organization towards greater value and impact by creating an environment where professionals thrive and do their best work. His renaissance approach to learning the building industry — he has had stints in surveying, civil and structural engineering, landscape architecture, IT, and architectural project management — means that he gets the importance of collaboration and knows first-hand that crossing traditional boundaries is the key to unlocking innovative solutions.

Steve is also passionate about workplace wellness and promotes it not only at DES but in the design industry as well. He ushered the American Council of Engineering Companies’ 50-year-old Health Insurance Trust into the modern era of Obamacare, and it now provides benefits nationally to more than 100,0000 professionals. He is equally committed to the vitality of the region’s business climate and serves as a Director and a Past Chair of the San Mateo County Economic Development Association. Given the dynamic nature of the Bay Area, he keeps a keen eye on emerging trends, new possibilities, and the industry’s best ideas.
