Tom Gilman

With over 45 years of experience at DES, Tom has a keen view of the big picture, and enjoys working out the intricacies of large-scale master planning projects with multiple considerations. As President of DES, Tom Gilman directs the planning and design of all architectural projects. As Design Director, he leads clients and partners through a collaborative exploration and discovery process to uncover the design alternatives and opportunities that make a project vision a built reality. 

Having helped guide the growth of the firm, with a focus on mentoring, marketing, and relationship building, Tom likes to lend his expertise to professional organizations. He has served on the Redwood City Architectural Advisory Committee, the California Architectural Foundation Board, and the Cal Poly School of Architecture Advisory Council. Tom is a licensed architect in seven states but a longtime resident of San Mateo County, and is past president of the county’s AIA chapter.
